Recognize stressors

Here we go! The end of the year is approaching… Again 🙂
Maybe you also feel that the time for wrapping up 2022 is coming. 2022, the year after pandemia and after everything connected with it.   Did you manage to keep alive some of the realisations you had during the time of forced quietness ? Or, like many of us, you find yourself fighting against stress and having too many things to manage at the same time?
Whatever is your position, it may be a good moment to reflect about the stressors that haunt your life.

I am now reading the last book of Gabor Maté, where, again, this fantastic author describes the deleterious effects of stressors on our health. He mentions as main stressors, beside the tragic consequences of big but also small traumas, uncertainty, conflict, lack of control, lack of informations.
These stressors bring our systems to be too over-activated, creating too much agitation, tensions and many chronic conditions. They also instigate a series of behaviours focusing on consume or act in order to calm down some inner uncomfortable sensations: too much time on electronic devices, eating, drinking, shopping, gambling….

Many of these stressors are external and our room for manoeuvre may be quite limited. However, we can try to contrast them by building a practice that helps to create calmness, to reconnect with yourself and to take distance from the outside inputs.
The practice I am referring to is bodyattention: by paying attention to your body, you refocus your attention inside yourself. The following list of questions, will help to attract your attention toward your own state and to reconnect with your gut.

  • How do you feel in this moment ?
  • How can you breath ?
  • What are your physical / emotional sensations ?
  • How is the state of your mind ?

This assessment may seems banal. But actually, many people rarely take the time to feel their state. They tend to have a superficial perception of it.

By investigating more deeply about how you feel, you will bring more attention inside yourself.
It is very important to actively breath and release muscular tensions: it allows to feel more of what is going on inside. And by doing this, the chance to enter in contact with uncomfortable sensations increases.
Why it is important to confront also with this kind of experience? Because it is part of your life, and it gives important information about how you are experiencing certain situations.
Also because it increases your resilience and ability to face other difficulties.
Least but not last, by getting more at ease with uncomfortable feelings, you will experience more positive feelings too.

As always I will be very happy to support you in reinforcing your bodyattention!
